A letter on REST

busyDear friends,

Saying "no" is a discipline. Saying “yes” to everything is disastrous.

There was a time in my life when I said "yes" to just about everything. As you can imagine, I became extremely busy. Eventually it felt as though I was drowning under the weight of all  the various activities that filled my every waking moment. Then God helped me realize I needed to simplify and become focused -- two things the Lord strongly desires for all of us.

Jesus once asked, "For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" Taking a moment to sincerely process this question may radically change your life! You see, there are many profitable opportunities in our world today that require diligence from the spiritually wise person in utilizing their yeses and noes. Keep in mind that God never promised blessings for busyness, but He most certainly does for obedience.

Please set aside sometime today to prayerfully consider how God is leading you to make some changes in your schedule. If you’re married, I’d highly recommend asking your spouse for their support and input. For singles, ask your friends and mentors to honestly speak into your life regarding your commitments.

Ultimately, may we all welcome Jesus' invitation found in Matthew 11:28-30:

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Receiving His rest and resource,

Pastor Bobby
